The Butter & Blush Journal
Customer Stories
When Customers Changed My Mind
The stories customers told changed the formulas.
When Butter & Blush first began, every product started the same way.
With an idea.
Sometimes it came from an ingredient I had been studying.
Sometimes it came from a texture I couldn’t stop thinking about.
Sometimes it came from a feeling I wanted to capture.
Every formula had a reason for existing.
I assumed that would always be how new products were born.
I was wrong.
There are products in the Butter & Blush collection that exist because I dreamed them.
Then there are products that exist because you did.
One of the biggest surprises has been fragrance.
When I first began creating skincare, I never imagined Butter & Blush would create a parfum collection.
That simply wasn’t part of the plan.
Then the questions began.
They were always asked with a smile.
“Do you have this fragrance as a perfume?”
At first, it was Butter & Blush Signature Body Crème.
Customers loved the fragrance so much that they wanted to wear it beyond their skincare ritual.
Not long after, the same thing happened with Black Baccara.
Then came Botanical Bliss.
Then Touch Me in Petals.
And then there was Frangipani & Agave, a fragrance that Alexandra loved so much, she kept insisting it deserved a perfume of its own.
At first, I thought these were individual requests.
Then I realized they were all asking for the same thing.
People weren’t simply enjoying the formulas.
They wanted to carry those scents with them.
They wanted the comfort of Signature Body Crème to become part of their day.
They wanted the romance of Black Baccara long after the shower ritual ended.
They wanted the softness of Touch Me in Petals to linger beyond the moment it touched their skin.
That’s when I stopped hearing separate requests.
I started hearing a pattern.
One by one, those conversations became fragrances.
Parfum No. 1 was born from the scent that made Signature Body Crème unforgettable.
Parfum No. 2 captured the deep, velvety romance of Black Baccara and later inspired Blame It on Baccara.
Parfum No. 3 grew from Botanical Bliss.
Parfum No. 4 carried the delicate elegance of Touch Me in Petals.
And because some requests come from the people closest to us, Parfum No. 5 was inspired by Alexandra’s love for Frangipani & Agave.
None of those perfumes were part of my original business plan.
Every one of them began with a conversation.
People often imagine product development as a designer sketching ideas onto paper or a formulator working quietly in a laboratory.
Sometimes it looks exactly like that.
Sometimes it looks like standing behind a table at a farmers market, listening carefully as someone falls in love with a fragrance and asks, almost hopefully,
“Is there a perfume?”
Those moments taught me something I hadn’t expected.
Listening is one of the most powerful forms of product development.
Not because every request becomes a new product.
It doesn’t.
But because when enough people independently ask for the same thing, they’re telling you something important.
They’re telling you what has already become meaningful to them.
Butter & Blush will always begin with curiosity, craftsmanship, and thoughtful formulation.
But today, it grows in another way, too.
It grows through the people who bring our products into their homes, make them part of their daily rituals, and quietly inspire what comes next.
Looking back, I realize those perfumes were never my idea alone.
They were ours.
And I think that’s a beautiful way for a brand to evolve.
